Discover Homegrown

Homegrown is a cozy and inviting restaurant located at 371 Merrimon Ave, Asheville, NC 28801, offering an exceptional dining experience rooted in local, seasonal ingredients. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by a relaxed atmosphere and a menu that celebrates the vibrant flavors of the region. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this place is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy fresh, homegrown food in a comfortable setting.

The concept behind Homegrown is simple yet brilliant: serving food that is as fresh as it gets, with an emphasis on sourcing ingredients from local farms and producers. As someone who values the connection between food and the community, I can confidently say that the restaurant does an incredible job at showcasing the best of Asheville’s culinary scene. The menu is thoughtfully designed to highlight seasonal produce, and you can always expect a unique, farm-to-table experience.

One of the standout features of Homegrown is the dedication to sustainability. The team goes above and beyond to support local farmers, which not only ensures that the food is fresh but also minimizes the environmental footprint. It’s a win-win situation where you get to enjoy dishes crafted with high-quality, locally sourced ingredients while also supporting the local economy. You can almost taste the care and commitment that goes into every dish.

The menu at Homegrown offers a delightful range of options for all kinds of eaters. From hearty brunches to satisfying dinners, there’s something for everyone. The breakfast menu, in particular, is a favorite among regulars, with dishes like avocado toast, farmhouse scrambled eggs, and crispy potatoes that keep you coming back for more. If you’re in the mood for something a little more indulgent, their pancakes topped with fresh berries and whipped cream are a must-try.

For lunch or dinner, the seasonal salads are always a great choice. You’ll find that the ingredients are not only fresh but also beautifully balanced. I’ve had the roasted beet salad with goat cheese and candied pecans more than once, and it never disappoints. The salad is light yet filling, with the perfect balance of earthy, tangy, and sweet flavors. It’s the kind of dish that makes you appreciate the simple joys of homegrown produce.

The sandwiches and entrees at Homegrown are just as impressive. Whether you opt for the classic grilled cheese with tomato soup or a creative twist like the smoked chicken and apple sandwich, each bite is bursting with flavor. If you’re in the mood for something more substantial, the local grass-fed beef burger is a crowd favorite. Paired with crispy fries or a side of fresh greens, it's the ultimate comfort food done right.

Homegrown also offers a great selection of beverages, from fresh juices and smoothies to locally brewed beers and handcrafted cocktails. Their selection of wines, which focuses on organic and sustainable options, perfectly complements the menu. On any given evening, you can expect a relaxing vibe with live music filling the air, adding to the charm of the space.

The atmosphere at Homegrown is something worth mentioning. It’s an ideal spot to unwind with friends or enjoy a quiet meal on your own. The interior has a rustic charm with wooden tables, soft lighting, and greenery that gives it a warm, welcoming feel. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to share insights about the menu or offer recommendations based on your preferences.

Beyond the delicious food and great ambiance, Homegrown stands out for its commitment to creating a community. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s a place to connect, relax, and enjoy the bounty of Asheville. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a long, leisurely meal, you'll leave feeling satisfied both in body and soul.

  • My husband, in-laws, and I were visiting Asheville and I had read some good things about this place. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly after waiting in line and surveying the menu. The lady behind the counter was sweet and professional. My in-laws got the fried fish plate, hubby the fish Po’boy, and I got the fried chicken. Everything was delicious: fries, cheese grits, slaw, kale, and the mushroom gravy that came with my chicken. I also tried the iced herbal tea, cherry lemon ginger and it was very tasty. Definitely will be back!

  • We were driving through North Carolina and stopped at Homegrown for lunch. Homegrown was a standout. Staff were on point and very friendly. I tried the chicken sandwich, and it was amazing. Heavily seasoned with fresh toppings. The fries were also good. The vibe was immaculate.

  • Really enjoyed this place. The Catfish was perfect & all the food was prepared well. The only thing is would be that, there wasn't AC, Except for in one small room. We used that area, so it worked out well. The place is cozy however & it's definitely worth it to eat there. I will definitely return when in the Asheville area!

  • If there were fountain drinks I could leave a 5. The food was good. I had the fried chicken sandwich. It was crispy and tender and the honey mustard horseradish sauce was good and I don't like horseradish.

  • Pickup order for pimento chicken sandwich, catfish po boy, and fries/collards for lunch. Restaurant is quaint, hidden gem. The quality of the fry beats just about anything else in town. Not soggy or steamed, even after the drive home. A good lunch place. Tasty sauces. Good flavor and texture. Sandwiches that are loaded with protein, though don't fall apart while eating. Will visit again.

  • Yum! Delicious wholesome comfort food. Loads of vegetarian, vegan and meat options. Their tempeh melt and BBQ were real good. Better yet, the biscuits and okra fries hit the spot. Great local independent restaurant!!

  • Stopped by for lunch after reading several reviews, and Homegrown did not disappoint!! Service was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the fried chicken sandwich with house made fries, the mediterranean orzo pasta and finished with an apple/mango/peach cobbler. Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and delicious! Left stuffed and grateful we found this wonderful spot.

  • Visited in July 2024. The burger was delicious. The baked apple dessert with ice cream was also phenomenal. My companions also enjoyed their meals, a BBQ tofu sandwich and a catfish po boy. The building was kept a little warm for my preference. Limited parking in the front. Appeared that the place is popular with the locals. Three meals, three sides, drinks, two desserts, and tip cost us about $82. I would definitely go back again.
